About The Role

Design plays a critical role in executing the company’s vision which is to make the transfer of value as easy as sending a text message. To bring this to life, Fincra is looking to hire a Head of Design. A visionary who knows how to plan, lead & execute initiatives across UX & Brand design. As a Head of Design, you will be tasked with leading product & brand teams to help build the simplest payment experience for our users & manage a brand that best markets this.

What do you need to be considered successful?

You will provide a creative vision not just for the design team but the whole organization. They contribute to the development of brand definition and experience principles and ensure that those are appropriately interpreted through the design team. You will also:

  • Be involved in the product development process from start to finish. From brainstorming entirely new features to designing usable and experience-driven flows and beautiful interfaces.
  • Define how Design operates at Fincra and manage, support, and grow a team of product designers and brand designers.
  • Exercise your full range of product, interaction, and visual design skills on a daily basis. 
  • Distil abstract business concepts and client needs into elegant creative solutions.
  • Creating a workflow for the team to do their best collaborative work with other designers and product team members.
  • Creating a comprehensive, well documented and organised Fincra Design System that will be reusable across all and evolve with our products.
  • Take new features from ideation to prototyping, to user testing, to production
  • Create and run effective brand & product design processes.
  • Manage the design review process between designers & stakeholders
  • Partner with product, engineering, marketing, the leadership, and other relevant teams to build and iterate on various design challenges in our product, across brand & product. Your work will help usher in a more digitally connected Africa.

You will deploy your exceptional leadership and team management skills to manage a team of product & brand designers to work towards an aligned goal. They hold their values very highly and look out for people that embody the same values and make a great cultural fit.

What do you need to have done in your career? 

  • Four or more years of experience as a senior-level Product designer. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience directing complex solutions for digital products across; user research, prototyping, visual design, interaction design, usability testing & brand design.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a brand designer, with a proven understanding of what it takes to build & design a global brand.
  • Have strong people management and leadership skills in order to hire, develop, and inspire the creative team
  • You are curious & earnest enough to work in a fast-paced environment. Fintech experience is a plus but not required.
  • A portfolio demonstrating your ability to solve problems & communicate clearly with aesthetically pleasing designs.
  • A craftsperson, passionate about typography, iconography, shadows, spacing, color theory, grids and layouts. You have an appreciation for other forms of design.
  • An advanced user of Figma, using auto-layout & variants to organize files. You try to clean up your layers.
  • Keep up to date with trends in the design and fintech industry.
  • An excellent collaborator and communicator, able to persuade around design concepts Cultural competencies (Company culture that don’t negotiate with).
  • Ownership, They are a team of individuals who are the CEO of their roles, and are able to consistently make excellent decisions independently, even in the face of ambiguity or uncertainty.
